Brown Bikes Ride To Nature

Join racial equity advocate & expert rider leader The Brown Bike Girl and fellow nature-lover May of the new East BK Bike Club on one or both10-mile nature adventures celebrating the migration of butterflies and birds through the NYC nature preserves in our own backyard! This is an excellent opportunity to get comfortable exploring “the woods” and bike through historically segregated neighbors in the company of other outdoorsy BIPOC bike friends.

We are biking to...

Raptor-ama in Marine Park

See real-life raptors (aka birds of prey) like owls, hawks, and eagles up close. Learn birdwatching to find them on your own & other activities.

Note: due to the all-day nature of the festivals, these are one-way rides. There will not be an organized group return or set return time. Once we arrive, riders are independently responsible for their return trips. However, the vast majority of the route is on the car-separated Jamaica Bay Greenway. The A train is also available .5 miles away at the Broad Channel station. (Check MTA for availability)

As always, get your bike checked and your tires inflated days before the ride. Especially if you haven’t ridden it in a while.

Who should ride:

This is a family-paced ride on a mostly protected greenway. We endeavor to leave no person behind. (We also respectfully ask you to be realistic about your ability comfortably do 10 miles and to bring a can-do attitude).

There are several bridges of varying lengths on the Marine Park ride. A moderate endurance level is needed.

Adults and supervised kids 14 years + are welcome to ride individual bikes. Younger children may participate by being carried in “street legal” attached child seats, trailers, and cargo bikes. Leaders reserve the right to declare a bike safe or unsafe for the group ride.

Any youth riders should already be experienced in going this distance.
