About The Naval Cemetery Landscape:

The Naval Cemetery Landscape is a contemplative memorial meadow and native plant, pollinator, and bird habitat that supports over 100 native plant species. This walk, led by Avvah Rossi, the Director of Horticulture, will touch on the history of the landscape and focus on the horticulture and botany of some of the flora on site and related ecological connections. Before or after this event, speak to our gardeners and learn about the Naval Cemetery Landscape (NCL) and Brooklyn Greenway Initiative’s work here and along the Greenway, and what goes into maintaining their beauty and accessibility for everyone. The Naval Cemetery Landscape is fully operated, made open as a public space, and able to provide space for programs like this solely by the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative through the generosity of our supporters. Brooklyn Greenway Initiative advocates for safe, green bike and pedestrian (and wildlife!) paths across the NYC area, and the Naval Cemetery Landscape showcases the impact that well-designed and well-managed greenspace has on human wellness and biodiversity. Getting There

Located on the eastern edge of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and accessed from the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway at Williamsburg Street West between Kent and Flushing Avenues. We highly recommend taking public transportation, biking, or walking to NCL.
