Huppet Developmental Reading
Be part of the next step in the journey of Huppet! After a sold-out premiere at Stanford University, this inventive and heartfelt puppet musical returns off the page for a developmental reading on Saturday, December 9th.
Huppet follows the journey of Lisa, a half-puppet, half-human teenager, as she ventures to Puppetland—her father’s homeland. Lisa’s quest to decide whether to major in Puppet-American Studies is both humorous and touching, exploring themes of identity, diaspora, and belonging in a world where the boundaries between humans and Puppets are a little bit fuzzy.
The story has personal roots for co-writer Lana Tleimat, a recent Stanford grad. Like Lisa, Lana’s family reflects the intersection of diverse worlds — her mother is from rural Ohio, and her father is a Syrian immigrant. What better way to explore these colliding backgrounds than through singing, dancing, and lovable puppets?
Directed by Chloe Chow and featuring an exceptional cast, the reading highlights exciting updates and new directions for this imaginative work. Stick around after the reading for a reception with food, where you can mingle with the creative team and cast.
Please note: RSVP is required to gain entry into the building.
Time: Doors open at 6:30, and the reading begins at 7:00 PM
