Arts in Action Festival “Public Evening Performance”

A celebratory performance MCed by Liza Jesse Peterson and Khalil Cumberbatch featuring NYC artivists.

You invite to join us for the final performance of the Arts in Action Festival on Sunday, July 24th, 2022 at Manhattan School of Music’s Neidorff-Karpati Hall from 7 PM — 8:30 PM.

Hosted by Liza Jesse Peterson and Khalil Cumberbatch, this performance will feature the work of a host of NYC artists showcasing how the arts can play a vital role in building communities based on justice and liberation, celebrating the resilience of the justice-impacted community and focusing on the city’s attention on the many ways that the “justice” system is failing to actually create justice for so many inhabitants of New York City.

Organizations represented at the festival will include ARTE (Art & Resistance Through Education), Columbia Law School’s Center of Institutional and Social Justice, College and Community Fellowships, Dances for Solidarity, Drama Club, Echoes of Incarceration, Exodus Transitional Community, Freedom Agenda, The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, Parole Prep Project, PEN America, RAPP (Release Aging People in Prison), Recess Art, Rehabilitation Through the Arts, Survivors Justice Project, Survived and Punished NY, Theater of the Oppressed NYC, Theater for Social Change Ensemble, Urban Justice Center, Urban Word, and Vera Institute for Justice.

The performance will feature work from Lynn Nottage, Arianna Afsar, Storyteller’s Lab, and others.

Performers featured include Dunasha Payne, Nora Schell, Geena Quintos, Andrea Ambam, Robbie Pollock, Olithea Anglin, Yolanda Peterkin, Selina Fulford, Cheryl Wilkins, and Teronia Campbell, Brandon Nase, and others.

Accessibility

Manhattan School of Music is ADA compliant. The performance will take place on the first floor. There are steps and a ramp to enter the building located at the main entrance of 130 Claremont Ave. The performance will take place immediately in front of the entrance at the Neidorff-Karpati Hall. There are ramps to access seats in the Neidorff-Karpati Hall.

Would an American Sign Language Interpreter support your access needs? We’ve got you covered! 2 ASL Interpreters will be available on site.

All bathrooms will be non-binary and marked with signage on the front. There is 1 spacious, accessible stall on the first floor. Please use whatever bathroom or stall is important, but please keep the accessible bathrooms for people with disabilities.

Throughout the performance, a section of the Activation Lounge in the Student Union will be an available quiet area for people who may need a break. In addition, staff support will be available in the Joy Lounge as well if at any point attendees are triggered and/or tired.

English is the primary language spoken throughout the festival.

COVID-19 Policy

We require that all guests are vaccinated with a booster OR get a negative PCR test within 72 hours of July 24th, wear masks except when not eating and drinking, and fill out a COVID-19 Screener Form upon arrival.
