r* game by Jerrica D. White — immersive staged reading

About the experience:

Jerrica D. White presents a one-day development and performance model as a blueprint for artists to learn how to get their work produced. Additionally, the experience serves as an opportunity to gain exposure for her play as she prepares to raise funds for a fully staged production.

The experience starts with the play, followed by a talkback, and reception to view the companion exhibition.

Synopsis:

Arial, a nervous writer, navigating life post-sexual trauma, has started to give up on dating in New York City. With the encouragement of her best friend, Zara, she gives Malcolm, an established jazz musician, a chance. He falls for her and she runs away. 3 years later there’s a window for a second chance. We journey with Arial as she navigates what has changed within her and around her, what has stayed the same, and ultimately if she has what she needs to receive a second chance at love

About Jerrica:

Jerrica D. White is a Brooklyn-based, Ohio-bred powerhouse, working to disrupt the way we tell stories in the American Theater, and more specifically, the way new plays get to the stage.

She believes freedom is won through vulnerability and works to give artists a sense of community and a platform to share their stories.

Her mission is to introduce new audiences to the power of theater, connect Black storytellers with Black audiences in a non-traditional setting, and inspire audiences to become early adopters and grassroots supporters of the next generation of playwrights, directors, and actors of Broadway and beyond.

A special note:

A portion of funds raised for this experience will be donated to Joyful Heart Foundation — a New York City-based charity dedicated to transforming society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, supporting survivors’ healing, and ending this violence forever.
