“Classics On The Lawn” Performances From Black Box Performing Arts Center

Black Box Performing Arts Center will be performing “Classics on the Lawn” for this year’s Shakespeare in the Park. The script-in-hand performances will take place each Wednesday from July 5-August 23 at 8 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This program is free and open to the public, and no registration is needed. You will need to bring your own chair or blanket if you need one.

In case of rain, the performances will take place in the library’s Mackay Room.

The scheduled lineup is as follows:

  • Wed 7/5 One-Acts by Anton Chekhov: The Bear, The Proposal, The Dangers of Tobacco, and The Reluctant Tragic Hero.
  • Wed 7/12 The Tinkers’ Wedding, and In the Shadow of the Glen
  • Wed 7/19 Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
  • Wed 7/26 Medea by Euripides
  • Wed 8/2 The Hairy Ape by Eugene O’Neill
  • Wed 8/9 Mrs. Warren’s Profession by George Bernard Shaw.
  • Wed 8/16 Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen
  • Wed 8/23 The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

Black Box Performing Arts Center (a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in Teaneck in 2015 and relocated to Englewood in 2019), and Black Box Studios (which has operated in Bergen County since 2007), together form Northern NJ’s premiere theater and performing arts school combo. The Black Box is a working professional theater run by a small, tight-knit group of collaborative artists. Starting Fall 2021 BBPAC sought press-worthy, artistically satisfying opportunities to save our Northern NJ theater during the height of the pandemic. This led to The Black Box’s incubation of new and under-produced plays by world-class artists. Our team is also focused on presenting other art forms within the space, such as comedy and music, as we host the emergence of a new and unique artistic community. Black Box has been collaborating with the Englewood Public Library since 2018 (the launch of the annual free Shakespeare in Park Bergen County). For more info, please visit the site. The Englewood Public Library is located at 31 Engle Street, Englewood, NJ.
