The tour will start at 2:00 pm and will last about an hour. The ride will be starting and end at LaPlaza community garden, one of the most sustainable gardens in NYC. Dress in green if you like!

We will be visiting the community gardens of East Village which were started by community members and have been run by green volunteers ever since. Almost all these gardens are built on composted food that became soil that people drop off. Composting is a big deal at the community gardens and the volunteers have made these gardens into urban farms where they grow food and have incredible sustainable systems. On this Earth Day Bike Ride, we will visit these compost systems, raised plots, medicinal gardens, water recovery systems, solar energy producing, and bees that will buzz all around you. Having so many gardens in one area is not only for producing clean air but is a way to capture the rainwater during a flood.
