About Robert Russell

Robert Russell privately trains actors at all levels for feature film roles. His technique is both unique and highly effective, honed over a lifetime in the entertainment industry. His family has built empires in the business; his cousin Robin Antin created the Pussycat Dolls, and his cousin Steve Antin wrote and directed the hit film Burlesque, with the musical adaptation currently selling out shows in London.

This intensive is designed to elevate your craft by focusing on the core principles of performance. You will explore:

• The Essence of Acting: Discover the “heart” of acting by understanding the event of a scene, layering conscious and unconscious behaviors, and using technique to push beyond your comfort zone.
• Script Analysis & Breakdown: Develop critical skills to find the truth in every scene. Learn to identify key words and phrases, uncover what’s not on the page, and pinpoint the central conflict and emotional core.
• Character Development & Technique: Master the art of “channeling” a character and shedding the artifice of “acting.” You will explore methods to tap into deep emotional content, use your instincts, and inhabit your role with authenticity. As Dennis Hopper said, “The best acting school...teaches you how not to act.”
• Performance Skills (GEMS): Heighten your command of Gesture, Expression, Movement, and Speech to powerfully communicate your character’s emotions and motivations.
• Emotional Conditioning: Build a rich personal and emotional history for your characters. Learn disciplinary techniques to consistently work on your craft, a crucial element often missing from traditional acting classes.
• The Business of Acting: Gain an insider’s perspective on the casting process. Understand what feature film casting directors look for in headshots, auditions, and chemistry reads. This session will demystify the industry and answer your most pressing questions.
