Digital Privacy and InfoSec Workshop

This workshop is an introduction to personal digital privacy and information security practices, and will cover some data management basics, as well. This workshop is open to anyone, regardless of skill, but will have a particular focus on practices most applicable in community organizing, record-keeping, and archival settings. No pre-existing skills or technologies are required. Participants should bring a device with them, as we will be doing some hands-on activities to help them secure their devices and digital footprints. We will cover topics including:

  • What information about me is out there?
  • Professional vs personal digital identities
  • Identifying & removing information from public directories
  • Personal communication infosec (emails, phones, social media)
  • Privacy considerations for documenting protests/actions
  • Securing and encrypting personal devices and files
  • Best practices for file-naming, data backup, and metadata

Because this workshop is hands-on, it has a cap of 25 participants — please register ahead of time!

This workshop is in collaboration with the Archival Technologies Lab & led by a facilitator with 9+ years of experience.

Time: 6:30-8:30 pm EST
