Filmmaking Workshop Series: Getting Your Film Acquired

The Bronx Independent Cinema Center Presents... A Summer Film Workshop Series!

First, you make a movie, then you make a deal. The business side of the industry can take many filmmakers by surprise. Never had a movie of yours distributed? This workshop is for you.

It’s important to understand that when your movie is complete, you now become a seller. It is time to move on to the most crucial part of your journey: Acquisition.

The buyer negotiates for the acquisition of the motion picture distribution rights in a specific territory (also known as, licensing), or the purchase of a motion picture (or multiple motion pictures) so that ownership of the copyright and all rights are transferred to the buyer.

Before the agent acquires your film, they will insist upon certain assurance that the film will be free and clear of any issues:

This workshop will teach you how to communicate and negotiate with an “Acquisition Agent” who will buy your movie. We’re going to get into the major details:

  • Chain of Title
  • Title Report
  • Script Clearance
  • Errors and Omissions (E&O) Insurance

During this in-person workshop, you will learn the following:

  • How to prepare and write a movie pitch
  • How to pitch your movie
  • What makes a pitch successful

Whether you’re a young, aspiring, early career or seasoned filmmaker from The Bronx or NYC as a whole, this event is for you!

Come ready to listen, learn, meet new people, and have conversations.

*RSVP Required
