Wire Sculpture Workshop in Bella Abzug Park

Bring a piece of Bella Abzug Park home with you! In this 75min workshop, participants will be invited to make miniature versions of their favorite Shadows sculptures or silhouettes of their choice using different types of wires. Participants will be guided and instructed by Fanny Allié, the artist who created Shadows. The wire(s) will then be embedded in plaster to make a base and create a stand-alone sculpture. Each participant will be able to bring their sculpture home with them at the end of the workshop. This event is free and open to the public.

Shadow is a site-specific installation of 10 sculptures for Bella Abzug Park by artist Fanny Allié. The colorful sculptures comprising Shadows depict ten workers who maintain the park for the benefit of the public. The artist’s intention is to highlight the presence of 10 of these workers through their body outlines and voices, allowing visitors to get to know them and making individuals, experiences, and work that can sometimes be overlooked visible. This site-specific installation aims to trigger a connection between the workers, the public, and the park and create a multi-sensory experience around the sculptures.
