Join us on May 13 to be part of a collaborative art project — Finding Center — Nature Speaks History — designed and created by artist Pamella Allen. Presented in conjunction with the Mother Nature/Human Nurture exhibition at the Old Stone House, Pamella Allen will create a new earthwork in the garden, inviting community participation.

Public attendees will be invited to reflect on their own relationship with nature and to contribute words and phrases to the sculpture, resulting in a collaborative community prose piece informed by history and touched with aspirations for the future.

Dictated by the landscape and history of the exhibition site, Allen’s earthwork will incorporate oyster shells that represent our historical reliance on our waterways, starting with the first people, the Lenape. Solar lights will represent the eternal flame for the souls of all the individuals who walked this land. The sculpture will also include living pollinator plants and recycled wood chips to represent a habitat for the endangered local ecosystem.

Be sure to also visit the Mother Nature/Human Nurture art exhibit, featuring Pamella Allen, Qiana Mestrich, and Dara Oshin, on the 2nd Floor of The Old Stone House. Mother Nature/Human Nurture is on view from April 27 — June 25; Allen’s earthwork will be on view until Fall 2023.
