Writing Workshop Series with Gloria Ester Fontanez: “Let It Be Told”

Calling all writers: Celebrate National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with New York Writers Workshop at The New York Public Library!

The New York Public Library is delighted to join forces with New York Writers Workshop to present a series of writing workshops for this year’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). These workshops are open to everyone, regardless of writing level.

Join us for this in-person writing workshop at Allerton Library.

Do stories percolate in your mind, while filling your nostrils like the scent of coffee brewing when the sun rises, or like the sound made by leaves falling to the ground on a crisp autumn day?

In this workshop, you will be guided toward an opportunity that allows you the pleasure of letting your mind wander; exploring thoughts so peaceful and fulfilling, that you will hear your inner voice clearly resonating stories like soothing music to your ears. Stories within you are waiting to be told. Write; write to your heart’s content. Allow the flow of thoughts and words to dominate your space while breathing in new possibilities for creating and forging ahead with your beautiful stories.

This workshop series runs for four consecutive sessions. Attending all sessions is highly recommended. Please note there will be no class on Monday, November 28.

  • Session 1: Monday, November 7, 11 AM — 12 PM
  • Session 2: Monday, November 14, 11 AM — 12 PM
  • Session 3: Monday, November 21, 11 AM — 12 PM
  • Session 4: Monday, December 5, 11 AM — 12 PM

Space is limited | Registration is recommended. Register above with your email address. Walkups will be permitted as space accommodates.

About the instructor

As a Puerto Rican woman, Gloria Ester Fontanez felt a profound pride and desire to write about her ancestry, crafting poems and short stories about immigration and the cultural treasures found in the language, music, and arts of her Puerto Rican people. Although much of her works have been published in online magazines, her first chapbook, Unspoken Canto, was published by Erbacce Press in England. Having lived on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, she learned about the similarities and differences between many immigrants from different parts of the world. People who, like her own, had come to this country searching for a better way of life. Ms. Fontanez studied Cultural Anthropology and Labor Studies at SUNY Empire State College in New York City. She is currently working on a book about Puerto Rican family gatherings to make pasteles, not as a cookbook but as a book of cuentos (stories).
