Details

What do we use every day that is not ours?

From time, shared spaces, and digital platforms to infrastructures, many resources we rely on daily aren’t owned individually but are collectively used. “Resources in Commons” is an interdisciplinary workshop that brings together students from various fields to explore shared resources and the practices that support them. Utilizing design tools as a collective inquiry method, participants map, discuss, and reflect on how common resources are accessed, used, and managed in everyday contexts.

The first segment of the workshop centers on analyzing real-world examples of shared resources and the ways we access them. Working in interdisciplinary groups, participants employ a mapping framework to observe relationships and responsibilities, followed by a collective discussion to compare viewpoints and insights.

The second phase of the workshop shifts to a foresight and visioning stage. Building on the initial analysis, participants are invited to envision how these resources could function differently and how they might be strengthened as commons. Through rapid design exercises, participants explore alternative scenarios and possibilities, using design as a critical and collaborative process rather than just a problem-solving tool.

The workshop emphasizes reflecting on shared resources as relational and collective practices and using design methods to foster dialogue, exploration, and shared understanding across disciplines.
