Book release with poet Laurène “Child of Congo: where it all began”
Join us for a special evening with Laurène and her debut poetry collection, Child of Congo: Where It All Began.
The book focuses on the history, identity, and resilience of the Congolese people — while also shining a bright light on the atrocities currently unfolding in the region and their colonial and imperialist foundations.
The reading will be followed by a discussion with the author and panelists TBA. Watch for surprises ... music, refreshments, more...
The evening is co-sponsored by the Revolution Books Educational Fund and Friends of the Congo.
We suggest pre-ordering your copy(ies) of Child of Congo HERE, and you can pick it up and get it signed at the event (supplies limited).
From the poem “Silent Genocide”:
There is a chant with just a few lines sung by citizens turned into overnight soldiers
It goes: “My mother gave birth to me / I was born to die.”
But their hymn can only be heard by birds as it crosses
The battlefield makes its way to the heavens.
