Live at DSK: Fiction Book Group

Hosted by our neighbors at Die Stammkneipe Brooklyn (710 Fulton St.) and led by former Greenlight general manager Alexis, our fiction book group meets monthly to discuss paperback fiction, reading broadly in contemporary fiction with the occasional diversion into classics. For October, the group will discuss The Door, from Hungarian writer Magda Szabó and translated by Len Rix, published as part of the NYRB Classics series. The Door is an unsettling exploration of the relationship between two very different women. Magda is a writer, educated, married to an academic, and public-spirited, with an on-again-off-again relationship with Hungary’s Communist authorities. Emergence is a peasant, illiterate, impassive, abrupt, and seemingly ageless. They share a kind of love—at least until Magda’s long-sought success as a writer leads to a devastating revelation.

Book group meetings will be held in DSK’s private meeting space; enter through the bar. Drinks and food are available for purchase; one item purchase minimum is encouraged! The fiction book group hosts hybrid meetings—if you would prefer to attend virtually, you can register via Zoom here
