From two dynamic debut creators comes a stunning look at the joyful journey one girl takes on a New York City train, where she learns a delicious lesson about having faith and being kind. Perfect for fans of Milo Imagines the World, Last Stop on Market Street, and Saturday at the Food Pantry.

Faith takes the train with her mother most days, and today, she’s eating one of Grandma’s delicious sandwiches. Isaiah, who usually sings a song on their ride home, is not singing today. Instead, he asks a question that quiets a busy train into awkward silence.

“Can anyone please spare some change? A bite to eat?”

No one looks his way except Faith.

“I see his face.

I hear his words.

My heart thump-thump-thumps.”

Will Faith have the courage to answer?

This picture book is sweet, relatable, and bold enough to spark conversations about the small ways we can show kindness and help people in need.

Mokshini is a multidisciplinary artist and the illustrator of Faith Takes the Train and The Golden Hoops. Her creative output ranges from painting to concept sketching to editorial collaborations and textile design. In Mokshini’s work, you can find her signature witty yet sophisticated take on daily life in the city, which is born of her whimsical portrayal of characters and a passion for storytelling. The inspiration she gets from everyday elements of New York City — its residents’ eccentric personalities, the fashion, the architecture—is why New Zealander Mokshini now calls Brooklyn home.
