“Strike Fast, Dance Lightly” — Book Launch & Roundtable Discussion

The FLAG Art Foundation, New York, NY, The Church, Sag Harbor, NY, and the Norton Museum of Art, Palm Beach, FL, are pleased to launch the exhibition catalogue for Strike Fast: Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing with a panel discussion moderated by artist and curator Eric Fischl, featuring artists John Ahearn, Zoë Buckman, and Cheryl Pope.

From 2023-2025, FLAG, The Church, and the Norton Museum of Art collaborated on Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing, an expansive, three-venue group exhibition centering on the sport, psychology, ethos, and spectacle of boxing.

Co-published by the three institutions and Gregory R. Miller & Co., and designed by Julia Ma and Miko McGinty, the catalogue details more than a millennium of the history of boxing and depictions of it throughout art history. Marking this unique collaboration between institutions, the catalogue includes essays by curators Sara Cochran (former Curator, The Church), Eric Fischl (artist and co-Founder, The Church), Jonathan Rider (Director, FLAG), and Arden Sherman (Glenn W. and Cornelia T. Bailey Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Norton Museum of Art), as well as guest writer, American sports journalist and author Robert Lipsyte. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
