Book Talk: Climbing the Rough Side of the Mountain

Come join us for an engaging discussion with authors Norman Hill and Norma Murphy Hill as they share their inspiring journey: from battling to end segregation with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to organizing paraprofessionals in New York, the Hills’ memoir spans six decades of incredible social and racial justice activism.

This event will take place at the Retail Wholesale & Department Store Union, where you can connect with social justice and labor activists and gain valuable insights from the authors themselves. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be motivated and inspired!

From the Publishers:

From battling to end segregation with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to organizing paraprofessionals in New York, the Hills’ memoir spans six decades of incredible social and racial justice activism. Their contributions to the labor and civil rights movements have helped build a better society, and their story will inspire a new generation of leaders. Both Norman Hill and Velma Murphy Hill have a rich history in the labor and racial justice movements.

Norman served as president of the A. Philip Randolph Institute from 1980 to 2004 and as staff representative of the AFL-CIO’s Industrial Union Department. Velma served as vice president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and as civil rights director of the SEIU. The pair both held positions at the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), where Norman served as national program director and Velma served as East Coast field secretary.
