This session is exclusively conducted online. Join the Grand Concourse Library team for a discussion on James Joyce’s timeless short story, “The Dead.” This extensive narrative, spanning 64 pages, delves into themes of love and loss. A married woman confesses to her husband about a past courtship with a young man she deeply loved. Originally part of Joyce’s 1914 collection, “Dubliners,” this story explores intricate emotions. To read the story, click on the provided title. On the event day, a discussion link will be sent to participants.

James Joyce (1882-1941), an Irish novelist, poet, and literary critic, played a pivotal role in the modernist avant-garde movement. Recognized as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, Joyce is prominently associated with his groundbreaking stream-of-consciousness novel, “Ulysses.” Bloomsday, celebrated on June 16 globally, honors Joyce’s life and contributions to literature.
