Geraldine Brooks brings her novel “Horse” to Revolution Books
Geraldine Brooks, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, will join us in person at Revolution Books on Tuesday, April 11 to discuss her new novel “Horse”.
This work of historical fiction is based on a world-famous racehorse of the pre-Civil War era, Lexington. Brooks weaves a gripping story of this horse and Jarret, an enslaved man who is the beloved and highly skilled trainer.
Brooks also excavates this history through the lens of two characters from our time, a young Black art history scholar and a woman who runs a bone lab at the Smithsonian. “Horse” reads like a heart-thumping mystery while taking in art history, scientific exploration, the art of raising a horse... and most of all how slavery poisoned all of society back then and the ways its legacy continues to rip through life in America today.

Geraldine Brooks is the author of several acclaimed historical novels including March, Caleb’s Crossing, and People of the Book. Brooks started as a journalist in Australia and was a Wall Street Journal war correspondent in Bosnia, Somalia, and the Middle East. Her non-fiction works include Nine Parts of Desire, based on her experiences with Muslim women.
