Black History Month Reading & Discussion with Thurman E. Scott

On February 16th, 6:30-9:00 pm, we invite you to be part of an exchange with the Artistic Director of The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW), Thurman E. Scott, as he reads selections from his original writings to celebrate Black History Month.

The evening will open with a creative imagination exercise and be followed by a reading of inspiring words and creative insights for our future by a gifted theater artist, followed by an opportunity for the group to discuss and reflect on these ideas, our history, and hope for the future.

Mr. Scott will address a range of topics, including:

Our national struggle with racism and how, by leading with curiosity and acceptance, we can break down the divisions of race and difference and learn from the struggles and triumphs of past generations.

The divisiveness and rewriting of history that is tearing at the fabric of our society, and how we can use the power of theatre to bring forth truth and build a foundation to come together.

One of the ways ATW accomplishes our mission is by bringing people from all walks of life together in service to our shared community. Join us to explore how, together, we can experience diversity and difference with empathy and honesty, and respect the power of the connections we make with one another. Participants will feel inspired and hope that we can genuinely bridge the gaps between us in our communities across our land.

We are very proud that the powerful impact of ATW’s educational and social activism is reflecting itself across our community, and we look forward to sharing our mission with you.

Be part of a compassionate and open exchange about the difference in which we examine the question: When we encounter difference, is our everyday behavior in alignment with our human, ethical foundation?
