Aftermath Reading #4: Basie Allen, Sarah Matthes and Matvei Yankelevich

Join us in person or online for a reading with three amazing poets.

Basie Allen is a poet and visual artist from New York City’s Lower East Side. His work carves parentheses in-between dirt and feeling. In 2020 he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His poem “Psychic Cartography” is included in MoMA/P.S.1’s Homeroom series of online publications.

Sarah Matthes is a poet from central New Jersey. Her debut collection of poetry Town Crier (Persea, 2021) won the Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize and was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award. Selected poems have appeared or are forthcoming with BOAAT, Pleiades, The Iowa Review, jubilat, Black Warrior Review, Midst, and elsewhere. She has received support for her work from the Yiddish Book Center and the Civitella Ranieri Foundation. A graduate of the Michener Center for Writers, she still lives in Austin, TX, where she serves as the managing editor of Bat City Review.

Matvei Yankelevich is a poet, translator, and editor whose publications include Some Worlds for Dr. Vogt (Black Square), Today I Wrote Nothing: The Selected Writings of Daniil Kharms (Overlook), and the recent chapbooks From a Winter Notebook (Alder & Frankia) and Dead Winter (Fonograf).
