Lecture “Professr: Scaling oral assessment through AI”

Co-Founders of Professr, Parth Shah and Mike Schahfer, will explore how to combat AI cheating through reframing our narrative of AI in education. They will discuss new ways to use AI to gather student data and enhance learning, including scalable oral assessments.

About the Event

In the age of AI, papers, quizzes, and problem sets don’t cut it anymore—they no longer reveal what students truly know or whether they’re building critical skills when AI can do the work for them.

Parth Shah and Michael Schahfer will explore strategies to address AI cheating in education and share innovative approaches to utilize AI for enhancing the learning experience.

About the Speakers

Parth Shah’s parents immigrated from India in the 1990s. He spent his childhood in Kentucky and the Bay Area before receiving a full scholarship to UC Berkeley, where he excelled as both a Regents and Chancellor’s Scholar in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) and Education.

Shah worked at GitHub, Codecademy, Teamshares, and taught high school math and computer science. In 2018, he received the National Student Teacher of the Year award. Shah later operated a coding school in Southern California and earned a spot on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list.

Mike Schahfer grew up in Baltimore and pursued a degree in Public Policy and Economics at Duke University. Throughout his career, he has focused on the intersection of education and technology, serving as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), working in operations at Uncommon Schools, and as the third employee and VP at Teamshares, where he developed educational programs for small business CEOs. He is currently the CEO of Professr, where he helps build AI tools to provide faculty with valuable insights into their students’ learning.

This lecture will be on the CUNY SPH campus, but those who are unable to attend in person will be able to tune in to a livestream of the lecture via Zoom. All registrants should RSVP. Virtual attendees will receive the livestream link after registering.
