Lecture “Winter Solstice Celebrations”

For centuries, the global observance of the winter solstice has been a source of celebration. Dive deeper into these festivities with one of our educators! Attend this complimentary lecture, where we will delve into the cultural practices, traditions, and mythology connected to the winter solstice and the symbolic “return of the light.”

The lecture will include:

  • An overview of the astronomical and seasonal significance of the winter solstice, and how it affects the Earth’s climate and ecosystems.
  • A survey of the various solstice celebrations and rituals that have been practiced by civilizations such as the Egyptians, the Romans, the Celts, the Maya, and the Chinese.
  • A discussion of the connections and similarities between the solstice and the modern holidays of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Yule.
  • A Q&A session where the audience can ask questions and share their own solstice experiences and traditions.
