How can we all contribute to the health of our planet?
Join us for a panel discussion between local organizations to find out what they are doing to invest in our planet and how you can too. We’ll discuss pressing environmental issues and what we can do to get involved.
Our Guest Organizations:
Their mission is to collect balloons after people are finished using them, but before they end up as trash, causing harm to the environment, wildlife, and even us (from micro and nano-plastics).
In the short term, they are re-purposing all balloons and ribbons into energy with Covanta, providing electricity for homes and businesses here on Long Island. In the long term, through funding from donations and grant awards, Balloon Mission Inc. recycles them into other products like industrial flooring through TerraCycle.
Operation SPLASH is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving the quality of Long Island’s south shore bays, waterways, and beaches. SPLASH members actively carry out this mission through marine debris cleanups, advocacy efforts, and STEM-based education programs for schools and universities. Since its founding in 1990, SPLASH members have removed more than three million pounds of trash from local waters and their work has influenced environmental legislation aimed at improving marine environments. Through intentional action and advocacy, SPLASH believes that the south shore can be preserved for wildlife and Long Islanders alike to enjoy for generations to come.
* Parking fees are collected 8 am-4 pm across Jones Beach State Park. Empire Passes were also accepted.
