Lecture “‘The Book of Jeremiah as a Cultural Trauma Narrative’”

We are honored to welcome Dr. Christl M. Maier to our campus. She is the Professor of Old Testament at Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany, and an Extraordinary Professor at the Discipline Group Old & New Testament at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. From 2003 to 2006, she taught at Yale Divinity School. Her main areas of research are wisdom literature, the Book of Jeremiah, Jerusalem in the Hebrew Bible, spatial theory, feminist hermeneutics, and trauma studies. She has authored and co-edited numerous books in German and English. Her most recent books are Jeremiah 1-25, a commentary in the Exegetical commentary series on the Old Testament (2022), and Transgressions and Transformation: Feminist, Postcolonial, and Queer Biblical Interpretation as Creative Interventions (2021).

The Thompson Lecture was made possible by a gift to the Seminary from Mrs. Luranah H. Thompson in memory of her husband, the Reverend Alexander Thompson, Class of 1919.

Health Guidelines

All guests are expected to adhere to the Seminary’s current health and wellness guidelines, including being fully vaccinated and boosted, if eligible. Our health and wellness protocols regarding COVID-19 change based on the guidance of our local health department officials and a number of cases in our region. As a result, protocols are fluid, and requirements regarding the use of face coverings, distance, and testing may change. For the latest guidelines, click here.
