In this new monthly Industry Insights on Research and Innovation Seminar (IIRIS) series, presented by Technology Opportunities & Ventures (TOV), experts from innovative startups will join us to discuss how their companies are using cutting-edge science to develop the next generation of therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices, and more. They will also share insights into industry trends and career opportunities, and answer questions from attendees. The events are free and open to the NYU community.

This month, our guest speaker is Dr. Haig Aghajanian, co-founder and VP of research at Capstan Therapeutics, a biotechnology company dedicated to advancing in vivo cell reprogramming. Capstan is combining the power of in vivo cell therapy with the precision of genetic medicines to develop new treatment options for patients across oncology, fibrosis, inflammation-related diseases, and monogenic blood disorders.

Full Speaker Bio

Haig Aghajanian, PhD is Co-Founder, VP, and Head of Research at Capstan Therapeutics, and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. At the University of Pennsylvania, he authored several high-impact publications including a study in Nature using CAR T cells to treat heart disease and a Senior-author publication in Science using targeted lipid nanoparticles to reprogram immune cells in vivo which led to the founding of Capstan. He received his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Biology from Villanova University.
