Industry Insights on Research and Innovation Seminars

In this new monthly Industry Insights on Research and Innovation Seminar (IIRIS) series, presented by Technology Opportunities & Ventures (TOV), experts from innovative startups will join us to discuss how their companies are using cutting-edge science to develop the next generation of therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices, and more. They will also share insights into industry trends and career opportunities, and answer questions from attendees. The events are free and open to the NYU community and a boxed lunch is provided.

This month, our guest speaker is Dr. Jeanne Magram, chief scientific officer at Celsius Therapeutics, a precision medicine company leveraging single-cell genomic analyses of patient samples to develop therapeutics for the treatment of IBD and cancer. Jeanne has over 25 years of drug discovery and development experience and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Radiant Biotherapeutics, a biotechnology company developing a next-generation multivalent biologics platform.

Prior to Celsius, she was a chief scientific officer of Quentin Therapeutics, a company focused on addressing the impact of cellular stress on immune suppression within the tumor microenvironment. Previously, she was the founding chief scientific officer of Northern Biologics, focused on first-in-class biologics for solid tumors. Prior to Northern Biologics, she served as the site head for Pfizer’s Centers for Therapeutic Innovation, a partnership between Pfizer and academic medical centers designed to accelerate the translation of innovative discoveries into differentiated new medicines. Before that, Jeanne was vice president, of immunology & inflammation research at Boehringer Ingelheim, where she oversaw a department committed to drug discovery in autoimmune disease. In this role, she delivered several candidates into preclinical and clinical testing, including the recently approved therapy SKYRIZI.

Earlier in her career, Jeanne was an associate director of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) drug discovery at OSI Pharmaceuticals and held roles at Hoffmann-La Roche focused on using model systems to understand the pathophysiology of disease and identify new therapies.

Jeanne completed her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate J. Michael Bishop and obtained her Ph.D. in the laboratory of Franklin Costantini, Ph.D., in the Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
