Movies at Hudson Park “Kid Galahad” (1937)
Warner Bros.’ Kid Galahad is a classic boxing melodrama directed by Michael Curtiz. The film follows Nick Donati (Edward G. Robinson), a ruthless and ambitious boxing promoter who discovers a promising, good-natured talent in Ward Guisenberry (Wayne Morris), a former bellhop who uses the fighting name “Kid Galahad.” Donati sees the Kid as his ticket to the championship and a big payday, but their path is complicated by a romantic triangle. The Kid falls for Donati’s sweethearted sister, Marie (Jane Bryan), while Donati’s own fiery and jealous girlfriend, Fluff (Bette Davis), secretly pines for a quieter life with him. This conflict escalates into a dangerous rivalry between Donati and his former protégé, Turkey Morgan (Humphrey Bogart), a crooked gambler and promoter, leading to a fixed fight that culminates in a brutal and tragic championship bout.
