Classic Movie “Silent Running” (1972)
In a future where Earth’s natural ecosystems have become extinct, the last remaining forests are preserved in a series of geodesic domes attached to large spaceships, located just outside the orbit of Saturn. Freeman Lowell, a botanist and devout ecologist, cares for these forests aboard the Valley Forge with a small crew who do not share his passion. When orders come from Earth to jettison and destroy the domes in order to return the ships to commercial service, Lowell is horrified.
Unable to comply, he murders his crewmates during the procedure and flees into deep space with the ship and its remaining forest, accompanied only by three small service drones. A desperate fugitive, he reprogrammed the drones to assist him and named them Huey, Dewey, and Louie. As he struggles to maintain the fragile ecosystem and evade pursuing authorities, Lowell must confront the profound loneliness and moral weight of his actions, finding an unexpected and tragic kinship with his robotic companions in his quest to preserve the last vestige of life for a future that may never come.
