The film follows the rise of Fanny Brice (Barbra Streisand), a talented but unconventional comedienne and singer, from her humble beginnings in New York’s Lower East Side to stardom in the Ziegfeld Follies. Along the way, she falls in love with the charming but reckless gambler Nick Arnstein (Omar Sharif), but their tumultuous relationship is tested by his pride, financial struggles, and her growing fame.
