Monday Matinee “My Cousin Vinny” (1992)
Two New York college students, Bill Gambini and Stan Rothenstein, are mistakenly arrested for murder in rural Alabama while on a road trip. With no one else to turn to, they enlist Bill’s cousin, Vincent “Vinny” Gambini, a brash, inexperienced lawyer from Brooklyn, to defend them. Despite his lack of courtroom experience and constant clashes with the no-nonsense Judge Chamberlain Haller, Vinny relies on his street smarts and the help of his sharp-witted fiancée, Mona Lisa Vito, to uncover flaws in the prosecution’s case. Through a series of comedic missteps and unexpected breakthroughs, Vinny ultimately proves his legal prowess and secures the boys’ acquittal, all while winning the judge’s begrudging respect.
