Thursday Afternoon Films “Three Coins in the Fountain” (1954)
Three American women—Maria, Anita, and Frances—travel to Rome in search of romance and adventure. Each tosses a coin into the Trevi Fountain, hoping their wishes for love will come true. Maria, a secretary, falls for her handsome Italian boss, Prince Dino, but faces cultural and social barriers. Anita begins a passionate affair with a suave translator, Giorgio, but struggles with his jealous ex-lover. Frances, the oldest of the trio, rekindles a long-lost romance with a worldly author, John Frederick Shadwell. As their stories intertwine against the backdrop of Rome’s stunning scenery, the film explores themes of love, sacrifice, and destiny.
