Juneteenth Film Series “Mississippi Burning” (1988)

Set in 1964, the film follows two FBI agents, the pragmatic Anderson (Gene Hackman) and the by-the-book Ward (Willem Dafoe), as they investigate the disappearance of three civil rights workers in a small Mississippi town. Facing deep-seated racism, local resistance, and a corrupt sheriff’s department, the agents employ controversial tactics to uncover the truth, exposing a web of violence and Ku Klux Klan involvement while grappling with moral and ethical dilemmas.
