Movie Monday — Pinocchio (1940)
Walt Disney’s “Pinocchio” (1940) is an animated classic based on Carlo Collodi’s fairy tale, following the magical journey of a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. Crafted by the kind toymaker Geppetto, Pinocchio is brought to life by the Blue Fairy, who tells him he can earn his humanity by proving himself brave, truthful, and unselfish. Guided by Jiminy Cricket, his conscientious but struggling conscience, Pinocchio faces temptations and dangers — from the devious Honest John and Stromboli to the treacherous Pleasure Island — where disobedient boys are turned into donkeys. After rescuing Geppetto from the belly of Monstro the whale and demonstrating true courage and love, Pinocchio’s wish is granted, transforming him into a real boy in this heartwarming tale of morality and redemption.
