Monday Night Movies “Videodrome” (1983)

Directed by David Cronenberg, “Videodrome” is a body-horror sci-fi film that follows Max Renn (James Woods), the sleazy CEO of a small Toronto TV station, who stumbles upon a mysterious broadcast signal called “Videodrome” — a disturbing show depicting torture and murder. As Max investigates its origins, he becomes increasingly unable to distinguish reality from hallucination, suffering grotesque physical and psychological transformations that suggest the signal is a dangerous experiment in mind control. Blending conspiracy, media addiction, and visceral body horror, the film explores themes of technology, perception, and the merging of human flesh with machines, culminating in a nightmarish vision of the future where “the new flesh” takes over.
