Thursday Afternoon Films “Three Days of the Condor” (1975)
Joe Turner, a low-level CIA researcher code-named “Condor,” returns to his quiet New York office to find all of his colleagues murdered. He quickly realizes that he is now the target and must go on the run, desperately seeking to uncover why his colleagues were killed and who is after him. Using his knowledge of espionage techniques, but lacking field experience, he tries to stay one step ahead of his pursuers.
During his desperate flight, Joe takes a woman, Kathy, hostage, using her apartment as a temporary hideout. He gradually develops a complex relationship with her as she unwillingly gets drawn into his dangerous world. Joe’s investigation reveals a conspiracy that reaches deep into the heart of the CIA itself, forcing him to question who he can trust.
As he pieces together the truth, he finds himself caught between factions within the agency and facing a relentless professional assassin. The film follows Joe’s desperate three-day scramble to survive, exposing the dark side of intelligence operations and highlighting the personal cost of betrayal. He’s not a field agent, but a reader and researcher, which is both his weakness and his strength, as he uses his analytical mind to outwit his pursuers. Ultimately, the film leaves the viewer with a sense of unease about the very nature of power and the potentially corrupting influence of intelligence work.
