Neo-Noir Film Series “To Live and Die in LA” (1985)

“To Live and Die in L.A.” is a 1985 crime thriller that delves into the dangerous world of counterfeiters and the relentless pursuit of justice.

The film follows two US Secret Service agents, Richard Chance, and Special Agent Rick Masters, as they track down a notorious counterfeiter known as The Baron (played by Willem Dafoe), a master criminal who produces high-quality counterfeit money and leads a life of luxury and decadence. Chance, a skilled and dedicated agent, is obsessed with bringing The Baron to justice, driven by a personal vendetta, and willing to go to extremes to capture the criminal, even if it means breaking the rules and crossing his moral boundaries.

The film explores themes such as obsession, corruption, the costs of pursuing justice, and the dark side of ambition, while also exploring the beauty of sun-drenched Los Angeles and the city’s dark underbelly, where crime and corruption flourish.

“To Live and Die in LA” is a thrilling and stylish thriller that combines action, suspense, and noir elements to create a gripping exploration of the human capacity for obsession and the price of pursuing justice.
