“Monster-in-Law” is a 2005 romantic comedy that revolves around the life of Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Cantilini, played by Jennifer Lopez, who after a series of disastrous blind dates, finally meets the perfect man, Kevin Fields, portrayed by Michael Vartan. Their relationship takes a tumultuous turn when Charlie meets Kevin’s mother, Viola, played by Jane Fonda, a former newscaster who recently had an on-air meltdown leading to her dismissal and a subsequent mental breakdown.

Viola, who is fiercely protective and possessive of her son, views Charlie as a threat to her relationship with Kevin and decides to do everything in her power to break them up. With the help of her loyal assistant Ruby and Kevin’s ex-girlfriend Fiona, Viola embarks on a series of schemes to drive Charlie away. However, Charlie is not one to back down easily, and what ensues is a comedic battle of wits and wills between the two women.

The film highlights the extremes to which a mother can go out of love for her child and the lengths a woman in love will endure to protect her relationship. It’s a story about family dynamics, love, and the chaos that ensues when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object
