Saturday Matinee: “Dead Poets Society” (1989)
At the elite and conservative Welton Academy, a new English teacher, John Keating, inspires his students with his unorthodox teaching methods and passion for poetry. He encourages them to seize the day (“carpe diem”), think for themselves, and challenge the status quo. The boys, including the introspective Todd Anderson and the rebellious Neil Perry, form a secret society called the Dead Poets Society, where they explore their individuality and love for literature. However, their newfound freedom clashes with the rigid expectations of the school and their families, leading to tragic consequences.
