Film Screening “The Shining”

The Shining is a classic horror movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of Jack Torrance, a writer who takes a job as the caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado mountains. He hopes to overcome his writer’s block and spend some quality time with his wife Wendy and his son Danny, who has psychic abilities known as “the shining”. However, the hotel has a dark and violent history that begins to haunt Jack and influence him to become a murderous maniac. Danny, with the help of the hotel’s chef Dick Hallorann, who also has “the shining”, must try to escape from his father and the hotel’s supernatural forces.

The movie is widely regarded as one of the best and most influential horror films of all time, as well as one of Kubrick’s masterpieces. It features iconic scenes and images, such as the blood-filled elevator, the twins in the hallway, the maze chase, and the phrase “Here’s Johnny!”. The movie also explores themes of madness, isolation, family, and the power of the imagination. The movie has been analyzed and interpreted in various ways and has inspired many sequels, adaptations, and parodies.
