Family Movies: James and the Giant Peach (1996)

James and the Giant Peach (1996) is a musical fantasy film that combines live-action and stop-motion animation. It is based on the novel of the same name by Roald Dahl, and directed by Henry Selick, who also directed The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). The film tells the story of James, an orphaned boy who lives with his cruel aunts Spiker and Sponge. One day, he receives some magic crocodile tongues from a mysterious old man, which causes a giant peach to grow in his garden. James enters the peach and meets a group of friendly insects, who become his new friends and companions. Together, they embark on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City, facing various dangers and adventures along the way. The film features the voices of Simon Callow, Richard Dreyfuss, Jane Leeves, Susan Sarandon, and David Thewlis, among others. The film also has songs written and performed by Randy Newman.
