German Movie Nights “No Hard Feelings”

The German Film Office and Villa Aurora are pleased to present a special in-person screening of Faraz Shariat’s award-winning debut feature No Hard Feelings at the Goethe-Institut New York, followed by a conversation with the director and co-screenwriter and producer Paulina Lorenz.

In this stunning, semi-autobiographical film, Parvis is a young and openly gay son of exiled Iranian parents who immerses himself in pop culture, fashion, clubbing, and casual internet sex dates as a means of escaping the suburban boredom of his hometown in central Germany. Caught shoplifting, he is ordered to perform community service in a refugee shelter where he meets Amon who has fled Iran with his sister Banafshe. As the three become friends—and Parvis and Amon fall in love with each other — Parvis finds himself caught between the generation of immigrants before him, the newcomers, and the rest of German society.

No Hard Feelings won the Berlinale’s Teddy Award for Best Queer Feature Film and its Panorama Audience Award, among many others.

“Heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure, No Hard Feelings delivers profound insights with a buoyant pop sensibility. Shariat’s characters may suffer precarity and prejudice, but the director doesn’t deny them queer joy, capturing them in bright pastel colors, sun-kissed scenes of sensuality, and music-video-style montages.” (The New York Times)

“No Hard Feelings is a love story, an immigrant tale, and the announcement of an exciting new talent in Shariat.” (Variety)
