Cinephiles, film connoisseurs, and people who just love classic movies unite for an evening of timeless cinematic beauty. This continuing series showcases the work of directors who possessed a particular eye for stylish aesthetics and gorgeous composition. While some directors used film to create high intellectual art and others exploited the medium for mere thrills, Salmagundi Library Movie Night presents the rare geniuses who gave us both.

There will be free popcorn and a cash bar with food for sale. The evening will feature a film introduction by Michael Fetherston.

Salmagundi Club members are welcome to reserve for dinner via our Reservations page. Please be aware that the last seating is at 8:30 PM.

About this Screening

The April installment of our Beautiful Cinema series will be an extra special event! We’ll be screening Charlie Chaplin’s 1925 gem, The Gold Rush and the presentation will be accompanied by a live piano score that will surely give us all an authentic roaring twenties experience. Chaplin’s hilarious and harrowing tale is widely recognized as a major cinematic achievement and Chaplin himself wished it to be the film he was most remembered for. The film will be accompanied by a live and original score by Terry Waldo, a world-renowned virtuoso and master of ragtime music. As always, we’ll be giving out free popcorn, so grab your bowler hat and cane and join us for what is sure to be a magical evening.
