Talking It Out: A Virtual Arts Festival

Talking It Out is an ongoing online arts festival dedicated to promoting mental health awareness to audiences worldwide.

Every four months, we will present a live stream of virtual theatrical performances on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

First, on November 20th at 7 pm EST, we will be presenting six short plays: “The Teenagers Aware of Death” by Amir Razavi, “Hoplo” by Cole Dzubak, “Warriors” by Tyler Powell, “Something Stupid” by Sydney Kurland, “This is a Low” by Cris Eli Blak, and “The Chimera Operative” by Jillian Carlisle and Elizabeth Shannon.

Then, on March 19th at 7 pm EST, we will be presenting four one-act plays: “The Midnight Catch Up” by Angelo Lorenzo, “Remembering Morgan” by Annie Brown, “Golden Thread” by Rosy Watkins, and “Sorting It Out” by Matteo Esposito.

Finally, on July 16th at 7 pm EST, we will conclude our season with a presentation of the full-length play “The Goodbye Letter” by Monique Hebert.

Tickets to these performances will be free to the public with donations being accepted — half of which will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, while the other half will be distributed evenly to the participating actors, directors & playwrights.

In addition to our usual season of plays, we will also be presenting a series of online events that will serve as partial fundraisers for our festival — half of the proceeds for these following events will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, while the other half will be used to help us expand our programming further, and to sustain production costs to improve the qualify of our festival going for artists and audiences across the globes for many years to come:

First, on October 9th at 6 pm EST, we will be hosting a live virtual panel — moderated by our Artistic Director Anthony J. Piccione — featuring a TBD roundtable of panelists discussing the importance of raising mental health awareness in the arts, entertainment & pop culture, in the hopes of furthering our festival’s mission of fueling conversation on these topics, and possibly finding new solutions to helping those who are struggling.

Second, on December 18th from 7 pm to 10 pm EST, we will be hosting the first-ever Talking It Out virtual open-mic night. For one night only, we will be opening our virtual stage to artists across the world to present a scene, monologue, poem, or musical performance of their choosing. Up to 30 five-minute slots will be available for performers. Priority access will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis to artists who identify as having a mental health condition, while other artists will be put on a waitlist and will be granted a slot if there is any remaining availability.

Finally, over the course of May, we will spend Mental Health Awareness Month presenting the first-ever Talking It Out online film festival. Filmmakers around the world will be invited to submit films 45 minutes or less based on the theme of mental health awareness, with paying attendees given exclusive viewing access to each of these films, as well as an opportunity to vote for their favorite film. At the end of the month, once voting has concluded, the top three films will receive a TBD cash prize.
