Series of lessons “Creative Gains: Becoming a Creative Entrepreneur”
Newark’s creative entrepreneurs share tips and advice for newbies in this speaker series at the Newark Public Library.
“Creative Gains: Becoming a Creative Entrepreneur” is a six-part speaker series that will take place at the Newark Public Library’s Main Branch (5 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102) and virtually on The Newark Public Library’s Facebook Live. “Creative Gains” marks the upcoming launch of MADE@NPL, a maker space, creative studio, and entrepreneurship reference center for Newark’s creative entrepreneurs.
The series consists of six conversations between successful creative entrepreneurs representing Newark. Each speaker represents a different form of creative entrepreneurship, including film, photography, music and podcasting, 3D manufacturing, fashion design, digital marketing, and branding.
Topics covered will include forming a vision for your business; managing expectations; financing your business; planning and writing a business plan; markets and marketing; business operations and managing your money; and social media and networking.
The series is moderated by Kimberlee S. Williams, Co-Founder, and CEO of the Newark Business Hub and President of Shift Small Business Now, who will interview the following guests:
Monday, May 23rd, 2022, 2-4 pm: Marcy S. DePina, President and CEO of FORSA Media Group LLC and FORSA Recordings. Marcy will discuss her experiences as an entrepreneur in the audio industry, including podcasting, radio, music, and community organizing.
Wednesday, June 15th, 6-8 pm: Yla Eason, Founder of Olmec Toys. You will discuss her journey in creating Sun-Man, the first Black action figure.
Tuesday, June 21st, 6-8 pm: Shidae Jones, Owner of CB Dreamhouse Boutique. Shidae will discuss her experiences in becoming a fashion designer and entrepreneur.
Date TBA: Lindsey C. Holmes, Owner of Usable Tech Co. and Financially Stronger LLC. Lindsey will discuss best practices for branding your business online and optimizing your use of social media.
