A unique concert prayer service at the “Jazz Church” of NYC. Sundays at 5 since 1965. All are welcome. Free to attend!

You are welcome here!

However, you are connecting with Saint Peter’s, and we hope you will find a wide and warm embrace. Among the skyscrapers and hustle and bustle of Midtown, this is a place of respite and renewal.

Join us for Jazz Vespers! We look forward to being together in person in our Sanctuary, or you may stream from home. Jazz Vespers is free of charge, with donations welcome at the door.

About Jazz Vespers

Jazz Vespers. NYC’s unique jazz prayer service is held every Sunday at 5:00 P.M.. Originating in 1965 with The Rev. John Garcia Gensel, he believed jazz to be “probably the best music for worship because it speaks to the existential situation of a human being. It is the personal expression of the person playing it.”

Saint Peter’s Church, the “First Church of Jazz,” remains a spiritual home to jazz musicians and lovers of jazz. Founded by Ruth and Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Joe Newman, and Sheila Jordan, among many others, today the community includes Catherine Russell, Arturo O’Farrill, Harvie S, Miki Yamanaka, and more.

This Week We Welcome...

  • Briana Swann (voice)
  • Sean Fitzpatrick (piano)

About Briana Swann:

Growing up in the church and immersed in a wide spectrum of musical traditions, vocalist Briana Swann infuses every performance with warmth, depth, and soul. Her artistry transcends genre, weaving together the legacies of some of the world’s greatest singers and songwriters while showcasing her own unique voice. A rising presence on the New York jazz scene, Briana has graced premier stages including Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Joe’s Pub, and The Jazz Club at Aman New York. Beyond her work as a performer, she is also an actor and writer, bringing an interpretive sensitivity that lifts lyrics off the page and ushers the spirit of the music to the forefront. With every song, Briana creates a space where storytelling, emotion, and artistry meet.
