BTM Book Club: Soothe Your Nerves

Tired of doomscrolling? Are your social media groups no longer fun? Shocked by how cruel people have become online and in everyday life? Are you carrying more stress than you want to admit, while still trying to show up for your family, your work, your community, and yourself?

Dr. Neal-Barnett’s book, Soothe Your Nerves: The Black Woman’s Guide to Understanding and Overcoming Anxiety, Panic, and Fear, speaks directly to the realities many Black women know too well. The pressure to be strong. The habit of pushing through. The fear that naming anxiety means something is wrong with us. The exhaustion of living in a world that often asks Black women to absorb pain and keep moving.

In this powerful conversation, Dr. Angela Neal-Barnett will read from her work and share culturally grounded insight on how anxiety can show up, why it is often missed or minimized, and what it can look like to reclaim calm, care, and emotional well-being.

This is a conversation for those of us who have been feeling overwhelmed by the world, worn down by the noise, or ready for tools that honor both the science of anxiety and the lived experiences of Black women.
