Armstrong Now! — Concert + Panel Discussion

On October 22nd, the Louis Armstrong House Museum will be hosting an Armstrong Now! Concert in the Armstrong Garden! Our Artist in Residence, Ulysses Owens Jr. has been diving into the Armstrong Archives to reimagine some rare pearls from Louis Armstrong’s catalog.

Prior to the concert, we will also be hosting a panel discussion in partnership with the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Panel Discussion at 1pm / Concert at 2pm. This is a FREE event with pre-registration through Eventbrite.

About Ulysses Owens Jr:

  • Performer, producer, and educator Ulysses Owens Jr. goes the limit in the jazz world and beyond; claiming eight successful albums of his own. Owens has also gained special attention for his performances on GRAMMY Award-winning albums by Kurt Elling and The Christian McBride Big Band. In addition to five Grammy-nominated albums with Joey Alexander, Christian McBride Trio, John Beasley’s Monk’estra, and Gregory Porter.

The concert will feature an all-star band including:

  • Birsa Chatterjee — Saxophone
  • Luther Allison — Piano
  • Philip Norris — Bass
  • Milton Suggs — Voice
  • Shenel Johns — Voice
  • Ulysses Owens Jr. — Drums

The panel will feature:

  • Dr. Stephen Lewis — Curator of Music and Performing Arts at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
  • Hannah Grantham — Curatorial Assistant for Music & Performing Arts at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
  • Ulysses Owens Jr — Armstrong is Now Artist in Residence
  • Regina Bain — LAHM Executive Director
  • Ricky Riccardi — LAHM Director of Research Collections
  • Jake Goldbas — LAHM Program Director
